THE man who was a victim of a hit and run accident in Nausori last weekend died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital this morning.
This has prompted Fiji Police Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra to appeal to the public for information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the driver.
He also called on the driver to stop evading the law and come forward.
SSP Mishra said police have advised the family of the death and arrangements are being made to conduct a post mortem examination.
Nausori traffic officer Inspector Viliame Caqusau earlier said the Fijian man in his early thirties was in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle at Luvuluvu, Nausori early Saturday morning.
"The accident happened around 4am on Saturday."
"The victim was walking along the road from the airport and going towards Nausori Town when he was hit," he said.
He said residents near the area said the vehicle that hit the man stopped after hitting him. However, the driver did not disembark and instead fled the scene.
Inspector Caqusau said when police officers arrived at the scene, the man was lying on the road and he was still breathing and smelling of liquor.
"He was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery."
