THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has submitted the ex-militants’ rehabilitation package to the Human Security Fund, Parliament was told yesterday.
Minister for Peace and National Reconciliation, Sam Iduri revealed this when asked by Opposition leader Manasseh Sogavare.
Mr Iduri said the progress of the rehabilitation package is looking good. Japanese Government is spearheading this programme to rehab the ex-militants who took part in the civil unrest from 1998-2000.
The Solomon Star understands the rehabilitation package will be given out in the form of projects for ex-militants to implement for future earnings.
The Government has taken a swift policy change after dishing out millions of dollars with money given as soft loan by Taiwan after the ethnic tension.
Meanwhile, as a peace building measure, Government will recruit three international Technical Advisors (TA) on short term basis.
This is to support the Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation in the area of peace research, peace dialogue processes and communication strategies.
Mr Iduri said the Ministry is still in process of finalising the terms of references for the respective TAs before the recruitment processes cane proceed.
