1st Swine Flu Case Confirmed in the Solomon Islands

Solomon Islands has one confirmed case of A (H1N1) or swine flu.
The patient is a member of the RAMSI personnel.

He arrived in the country from Brisbane, Australia last Thursday.

Chairman of the Swine Flu Taskforce, Dr Cedric Alependava confirms the case saying the patient is currently quarantined at RAMSI's Aspen Medical Centre.

Mr Alependava said the Aspen Medical Centre has twelve other RAMSI officers in quarantine - one of them is being treated as a suspect case.

All of them were travelling with the confirmed patient on the flight to Honiara.

Meanwhile, the Swine flu taskforce is appealing to people who arrived in the country on board Pacific Blue flight DJ-169 last Thursday to contact them or medical authorities.

Mr Alependava says it is important that the taskforce attends to them immediately as they might have come into contact with the confirmed patient.

There were 128 passengers on board the flight.
