Welcome to Central Malaita Student Association


The Central Malaita Students Association (CMSA) is a multi-dialect and cultural Student Group Consisting of students from Kwara’ae, Langalanga, Kwai and Ngongosila, Malaita Outer Islands, Kwaio and Fataleka. Our vision and objective is to protect the norms and cultural values of our members while at the same time we enhance our academic knowledge and skills towards the promotion of development and the improvement of living standards in our respective regions.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Learning, Teaching and Student Services

The University of the South Pacific is pleased to announce that the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Learning, Teaching and Student Services, Professor Susan Kelly, assumed her position yesterday, 17th August 2010. Professor Kelly will be responsible for the key areas of Learning and Teaching, Campus Life and Student Services.

Professor Kelly was appointed by the Council at its meeting in Honiara, Solomon Islands on 13th May 2010. She has extensive experience in higher education leadership and management. Professor Kelly's previous senior appointments include: President of Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles, Inaugural System Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs of Argosy University in Chicago, Dean, Associate Provost and Full Professor at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, President of the Australian Psychological Society and General Manager, Educational Programmes, Centre for Adult Education in Melbourne.

A Tasmanian, Professor Kelly has published widely including three major books and a large number of refereed articles, presentations and addresses. She has also received several honors and awards.

Professor Kelly's major task early in her tenure at USP will be to lead the University's Strategic Total Academic Review (STAR), which will provide a very deep reform of the University's programmes, courses and academic policies, procedures and structures. In particular, the University will review the number of programmes and courses, their relevance to the development needs of the Pacific Islands, the extent of duplication among courses and programmes, the duration of the programmes, the introduction of credit points and the formal development, implementation and monitoring of graduate attributes. She will also be responsible for ensuring excellence in all the areas under her charge of learning and teaching, student services and campus life.

Professor Kelly brings to the University senior and demonstrated capabilities in higher education management and educational reform. The University welcomes Professor Kelly and looks forward to her contributions to the University as it reforms, reshapes, and re-energizes itself for higher quality, greater agility in decision-making and closer engagement with its member countries and all the communities it serves.
