THE Magistrates Court yesterday committed the rape case of a custom doctor to the High Court after conducting a short form Preliminary Inquiry.
Ambrose Ta Tembere from Kukusin Village in Wagina, Choiseul Province, is charged with four counts of indecent assault and one count of rape. He pleaded guilty to all the indecent assault charges but denied the rape charge.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Jefferson Leua after conducting a short form PI committed Tembere to stand trial in the High Court.
Jacob Kinai from the Public Solicitor’s office who represents the accused also conceded that there is enough evidence for his client to stand trial before the High Court.
Tembere a was accused of touching private parts of three girls between the ages of 13, 15 and 17 at the White River hilltop to treat them with his said custom medicines on February 1 this year.
He was also accused of touching the private part of another 17 year-old girl and was said to have raped the girl during the course of ritual healings on January 31 this year.
