PRIME Minister Danny Philip is tight-lipped over plans as to what job he would be assigning to Member of Parliament (MP) for North Malaita Jimmy Lusibaea.
Mr Lusibaea who was the former Fisheries Minister was released from jail last week after serving only 45 days of his sentence although he was sentenced to two years and nine months in November last year for unlawful wounding and assaulting a police officer.
This was after a parole board appointed by the Governor General recommended Mr Lusibaea’s release to the Police Minister James Tora, which he did so under his powers in regards to the Correctional Services Act 2007 to parole prisoners.
Mr Lusibaea while in jail had left his portfolio empty which forced Prime Minister Danny Philip to make changes switching Forestry Minister Bodo Dettke in his place and switching former Public Service Minister Douglas Ete to the Forestry Ministry.
Mr Ete was replaced by MP for East Kwaio Stanley Sofu.
This means all portfolios have been filled leaving one of the Governments most influential members Mr Lusibaea reportedly as a backbencher.
However, Mr Lusibaea showed he was still a strong member of the Danny Philip regime heading straight to the Prime Minister’s office after he was released to reaffirm his support to Danny Phillip and his cabinet.
A spokesman from the Prime Ministers Office said the Prime Minister has plans for Mr Lusibaea but at this stage they still do not know.
The spokesperson said the Prime Minister knew very well that he could not replace Mr Lusibaea with one of his ministers because it would cause problems for the government.
“We don’t know maybe he will create another portfolio for him,” the source said.
However, the prime ministers press secretary Alfred Sasako said it was still too early for Prime Minister Danny Philip to make any decisions.
He said as far as he is concerned nothing is still in place at the moment.
“I will be meeting with the Prime Minister and hopefully find out what plans the government has for Mr Lusibaea,” he said.
