The International Peace Day theme 'Peace, Youth and Development' celebrated worldwide today is a timely and relevant topic for the situation in Solomon Islands.
The Director of Reconciliation and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace, Sam Tagana, made the remark when he officially opened the youth peace forum kick-starting today's programme.
He said the aim of the forum is to give the youth an opportunity to come together and share ideas concerning peace.
Mr Tagana says because young people make up a very high portion of the population, they need to be impressed with an attitude that the country's future belongs to them.
He said the future depends much on sustainable peace, among other things, which is a crucial enabling condition for socio economic development.
The youth peace forum, which was held at the SIBC Conference room, was lead by Live and Learn Education Centre and attended by youth representatives from various high schools and youth organisations in Honiara.
The youth peace forum is part of a week long programme organised by the ministry and all stakeholders of peace and youth in the country.
