This week 1st of February 2011 taxi fares increase from $7 to $10 per kilometer. The increase was made by the Taxi Association here in Honiara last month in their board meeting. Speaking to media after their meeting, Taxi Association secretary and owner of Kingz taxi service Mr. Fred Peter said, due to the increase of fuel prices, bad roads and increase of spare parts, we the taxi associations come up to a final decision to increase the taxi fare from $7 to $10 per kilometer rate and will come in to effect as of 1st February 2011. However, the increases of taxi fares are criticized by general public. One concerned taxi user speaking to CMSA and said the increase taxi fares need justifications. But the Taxi Association sticks to their final decision that all taxi services will increase their taxi rate from $7 to $10 per kilometer.
