The Malaita Provincial Government has made a leap in the last three months since coming into office on January 16. It kicked off two Japanese Government projects - the market and Jetty project at Auki township and made sure the budget was passed in accordance with Provincial Government requirements.
Work is currently underway on both projects with workers laying the foundation for the market. The work on the Jetty should start soon when the barge unloads all the materials from it.
Province Premier Edwin Suibaea said the past three months were very busy for his Government. " It's a big challenge because we got the projects to sort out, tidy administration work and passed the budget," he said."Also we host overseas delegations especially from the Israel government."
Suibaea is leading a 16 Government team which includes five new regional ministers. This is part of his decentralisation policy to spread developments through the islands.
There are 33 seats in the Provincial assembly. Suibaea said he is expected to launch his policy when it is completed soon
